Ezechiel 33,11
Vivo ego, dicit Dominus Deus; nolo mortem impii, sed ut revertatur impius a via sua et vivat. Convertimini, convertimini a viis vestris pessimis.
As I live, says the Lord God, I swear I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked man, but rather in the wicked man’s conversion, that he may live. Turn, turn from your evil ways!
Na moje życie! – wyrocznia Pana Boga. Ja nie pragnę śmierci występnego, ale jedynie tego, aby występny zawrócił ze swej drogi i żył. Zawróćcie, zawróćcie z waszych złych dróg!

Seduxisti me, Domine, et seductus sum;
fortior me fuisti et invaluisti.
You duped me, o Lord, and I let myself be duped;
you were too strong for me, and you triumphed.
Uwiodłeś mnie, Panie, a ja pozwoliłem się uwieść;
ujarzmiłeś mnie i przemogłeś.

ad Corinthios I 12,4-11
Divisiones vero gratiarum sunt, idem autem Spiritus; et divisiones ministrationum sunt, idem autem Dominus; et divisiones operationum sunt, idem vero Deus, qui operatur omnia in omnibus.Unicuique autem datur manifestatio Spiritus ad utilitatem. Alii quidem per Spiritum datur sermo sapientiae, alii autem sermo scientiae secundum eundem Spiritum, alteri fides in eodem Spiritu, alii gratia sanitatum in uno Spiritu, alii operatio virtutum, alii prophetia, alii discretio spirituum, alii genera linguarum, alii interpretatio sermonum. Haec autem omnia operantur unus atque idem Spiritus, dividens singulis prout vult.
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord;there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. To one is given through the Spirit the expression of wisdom; to another the expression of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit; to another mighty deeds; to another prophecy; to another discernment of spirits; to another varieties of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them individually to each person as he wishes.
Różne są dary łaski, lecz ten sam Duch; różne też są rodzaje posługiwania, ale jeden Pan; różne są wreszcie działania, lecz ten sam Bóg, sprawca wszystkiego we wszystkich. Wszystkim zaś objawia się Duch dla wspólnego dobra. Jednemu dany jest przez Ducha dar mądrości słowa, drugiemu umiejętność poznawania według tego samego Ducha, innemu jeszcze dar wiary w tymże Duchu, innemu łaska uzdrawiania w jednym Duchu, innemu dar czynienia cudów, innemu proroctwo, innemu rozpoznawanie duchów, innemu dar języków i wreszcie innemu łaska tłumaczenia języków. Wszystko zaś sprawia jeden i ten sam Duch, udzielając każdemu tak, jak chce.

Machabaeorum II 12,44-46
Nisi enim eos, qui ceciderant, resurrecturos speraret, superfluum videretur et vanum orare pro mortuis, et quia considerabat quod hi qui cum pietate dormitionem acceperant, optimam haberent repositam gratiam. Sancta ergo et salubris est cogitatio pro defunctis exorare, ut a peccatis solvantur.
For if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin.
Gdyby bowiem nie był przekonany, że ci zabici zmartwychwstaną, to modlitwa za zmarłych byłaby czymś zbędnym i niedorzecznym, lecz jeśli uważał, że dla tych, którzy pobożnie zasnęli, jest przygotowana najwspanialsza nagroda – była to myśl święta i pobożna. Dlatego właśnie sprawił, że złożono ofiarę przebłagalną za zabitych, aby zostali uwolnieni od grzechu.
